Description: Yugu nationality (裕固族) is the descendant of Uigur. With a population of 14,378, Yugu nationality mainly gathers in Sunan Yugu Autonomous County of Zhangye city in Gansu province. They engage in animal husbandry and advocate horse riding and archey.
Language: Yugu nationality speaks Yugu language and writes Chinese.
Religion: Yugu nationality believes in Lamaism.
Clothing Character: “High collar and cap with ribbon” is the biggest feature off Yugu clothing. The style, color and embroidered pattern are formulated according to its convention and handed down from generation to generation. The 
hat of western part of Yugu is peaky, while in eastern region is round. Both men and women of Yugu are used to wearing wide gown with high collar and binding a belt.
Food Culture: Yugu nationality takes rice, flour and coarse cereals as principle food, milk and meat as non-staple food. They drink milk tea three times a day. They don’t eat fish, dog, horse, donkey and mule.
Geography: Yugu nationality is situated at the north foot of Qilian Mountain, in the middle of the Hexi Corridor. The broad and high-quality grassland is the natural pasture. Original forest is home to numerous rare wild plants. Qilan Mountain is abundant in rich mineral resources. Yugu nationality is well-known for its jade.
Activities: Cut Mane is a kind of traditional farm-worshipping activity, held several days after the 11th, April. Yugu people take care for animals. When the little pony is one year old, they will hold solemn ceremony of cut mane. On that day, friends and relatives come for congratulations. They sing the song of cut mane as they cut. When finishing, the owner ride the pony drop around all the tents.
June assembly is a traditional religion festival, prevailing in Sunan county in Gansu province. When the time comes, herdsmen in the mountain invite lama to read peace lection. They scatter green tea toward certain place on the mountain to pray for the prospect of Mountain God.
April Assembly is the day of fast. Lama and monk of temple abstain from meat, wine, etc.. for two days.
