Description: Tajik nationality (塔吉克族), referring to “royal crown”, mainly distributes in Tajik Autonomous County of Taxkorgan in the southwest of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. On the basis of the 6th census in 2010, Tajik nationality had a population of 51,069. Tajik primarily engaged in animal husbandry and farming.
Language: Tajik nationality of China speaks Sarikoli language and Wakhi language, which could not corresponded with the Tajik language of Tajikistan.
Religion: Tajik is the only nationality that believes in Shi’ites of Islam. Eagle is closely related with Tajik, so presumably, eagle was once the totem of Tajik nationality.
Clothing Character: Cap of Tajik is the most unique. Man’s cap is usually round and high, made of black flock. Woman often wear embroidered cotton-padded cap with a circular top. The latter part of the cap has a screen. When going out, they wrap a white kerchief outside the cap. The bride’s is red and the little girl’s is yellow. Women like wearing ornaments on the cap, clothes and hair.
Food Culture: Grasping meat, rice boiled with milk and baked pancake with milk are the most favorite food of Tajik nationality. Deep-fried dough cake, dried milk and urum are essential diet for Tajik.
Festivals: Most of its festivals are relative with religion. The Lantern festival (also named Baluoti) is one traditional festival of Tajik nationality, which is held on the first two days of August. Before the festival, every family make a number of small candle lights and one large candle light, each of which is corresponding with the family member. On the night of the festival, all family members light the candle and pray for peace and health. The largest candle light is sticked in the roof.
Arts: Eagle is closely relative with Tajik people. Their folk dance is called “eagle dance”, imitating the eagle’s act. Eagle flute, the most characteristic instrument of Tajik, is made from wing bone of eagle. Eagle is the symbol of hero to Tajik people. Some of the literatures are on the theme of eagle. The long poem, white eagle, is widely spread.
