Description: Russian nationality (俄罗斯族) is the descendant of ancient Russian migrant. After hundreds of years’ assimilation, Russian nationality in China is totally different from Russian in appearance and custom. According to the 5th census of 2000, Russian nationality has a population of 15,609. They mainly centered in the Northwest of Uygur Autonomous Region in Xinjiang province, the north of Heilongjiang province and the northeast of Inner Mongolia.

Clothing Character: The traditional clothes is full of variety. The color and style are change along with the four seasons. Russian men in summer wear silt gown and trousers made from silk or white embroidered shirt and bloomers.
In winter they wear fur clothing and cotton-padded clothes. Women like to wear printed dress or embroidered shirt without collar in upper attached home-made white skirt in lower. T-shirts both men and women are embroidered patterns of flower or geometric figures on collar, cuff and forebreast.
The headwear of Russian women is unique. The hair of young girl is outside of the headwear plaited in braid and attached with colorful hair band and glass beads. On the contrary, the married women have to wrap their braid into cap or scarf closely.
Food Culture: The diet of Russian nationality still maintains the traditional custom living in Russia in early stage. They take home-made bread as the principal food, Russian fried dish as side dishes. They take butter bread and milk in the morning, bread and vegetables in the noon, rice, stir-fry or noodle as dinner. Black Lieba is the most traditional and honorable food for Russian people. They are skilled in making all sorts of food and drink.
Festivals: Christmas Day is a large religion festival for Russian nationality. It is held on 7th, January to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Both believers and non-believers are used to eating Christmas goose. While dinning together in the evening, they present gifts mutually.
Easter is the most solemn festival, held between 4th, April and 10th, May. On the day, every family prepares nut cake and painted eggshell. Whenever guests come, the owner present him a painted eggshell to symbolize prosperity of life.
Arts: Russian Matrioska is well-known traditional handicraft and tourist souvenir. Matrioska is a set of dolls made up of several layers.
