We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Daur Nationality

Description: Daur nationality (达斡尔族), one of the 56 ethnic minorities, mainly distributes in Daur Autonomous Banner of Morin Dawa in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Daur District of Meilisi, Fularji District in Heilongjiang province.

In 1617, Nurhaci conquered Sahaliyan in the middle of Heilongjiang province, the original name of Daur. The word of “Daur” turned up in the early period of Kangxi Emperor. After the founding of New China, Daur was applied formally according to the national will.

Language: Daur language is an independent branch belonging to Mongolian branch under Altaic family. Before Qing Dynasty, Daur made use of Khitan, which was lost because of war.


















Religion: Just like other nationalities under Altaic family, Daur also believe in Shamanism.

Clothing Character: Daur nationality live in the cold area in the North, as a result, restricted by the location and economic condition, fur clothing was favored by Daur in the old days. Even to this day, Daur in mountain region in Moqi still wear fur clothing in certain occasions such as hunting, a long journey in winter, etc..

Food Culture: Daur people take nice, porridge and flatbread as staple food, three meals a day. They make rice cake in Spring Festival.

Festivals: The Spring Festival, called Anie by Daur, is the most celebrated. When the festival is approaching, every family make adequate preparation such as killing pigs, making rice cake and so on. On New Year’s Eve, they eat dumplings. On New Year’s Day, people dress up, make New Year greeting and give presents among women. The Spring Festival lasts for 16 days, from the lunar New Year’s Day to the Calendar in China.
They eat moon cake on the Mid-Autumn Day.


















Custom: Respect for the elderly---Daur pay more attention to etiquette, especially for the elderly. No matter walking on the road, or accessing the door, young people give way to the aged. Children send their regards to the elderly when they come back home.

Daur carries out the monogamy. They do not marry with other nationalities.
It is forbidden to point sb with sharp tool such as knife, scissors, etc. It is not allowed to build a house with white birch and eim.
