Are you thinking of how to use toilets in China? Siting or squatting? That is a question for many travelers. Squatting toilets are still quite popular in China.<\/p>\n<p>Though\u00a0it may seem uncomfortable and rather too primitive,\u00a0the squatting position helps you relax your puborectalis muscle and straightens your rectum, reducing the possibility of getting constipated and easily having waste evacuated.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">China&#8217;s reputation for horrible public bathrooms is quite known. But things are changing to the better now\u00a0in some big cities like\u00a0Beijing, Xian Shanghai and etc.\u00a0The local\u00a0governments\u00a0in China are\u00a0doing a lot to improve the state of the toilet facilities.\u00a0 Now you&#8217;ll often find public toilets rated with stars.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Most hotels\u00a0and all major airports are equipped with sitting toilets with western facilities. But in some tourist spots or remote areas,\u00a0toilets are not clean and well maintained, no\u00a0toilet paper, no soap or tissues to dry your hands.<\/p>\n<p>Some toilets need repairs which are often clogged with rundown toilet plumbing.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Tips for using a toilet in China:<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">1. Always having t<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">oilet paper (pocket tissues) on hand<br \/>\n2. Wet wipes and hand sanitizer<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">3. Handkerchief for drying hands when towel isn&#8217;t available <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">4. Accept squatting toilets if no way. Many argue it&#8217;s actually healthier to squatting\u00a0than sitting down.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">5. If too smelly, you need to squat and cover your nose and bring your own tissue always.<br \/>\n6. If no flush, no door with a bucket of water once a day, just keep\u00a0an open mind and a sense of humor.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">7.
