Du Fu – the famous poet <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Du Fu was a famous poet (712\uff0d770) in Tang Dynasty ( 618 \u2013 907 ).\u00a0 In 759 Du Fu and his family fled to Chengdu\u00a0to keep from the An-Shi Rebellion breaking out in 758. With the help of his friends, he built a straw-roofed\u00a0 hut near the Flower Rinsing Creek and lived there for over four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his four years in Chengdu, \u00a0He wrote 240 poems that are still popular\u00a0till today in China. Among them: \u201cMy Thatched Hut was torn apart by Autumn Wind\u201d and \u201cThe Prime Minister of Shu\u201d. The \u201cthatched Cottage\u201d period was the prime time of Du Fu\u2019s creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Du Fu Thatched Cottage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After Du Fu left Chengdu, his thatched cottage was dilapidated. Wei Zhuang, a poet in the Five Dynasties (907 \u2013 960), reconstructed the cottage on the original site in honor of Du Fu. The cottage was preserved and renovated through Song, Yuan Ming and Qing dynasties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today the cottage has been turned into a museum and a park, a popular destination for Du Fu enthusiasts around the world to pay tribute to the great poet. In 1961, the Du Fu\u00a0Thatched House\u00a0was listed\u00a0as a National Heritage site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get there<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Du Fu Cottage ( \u675c\u752b\u8349\u5802 ) is on the west of the city center of Chengdu. Du fu Cottage (west), Qingyang Taoist Temple<\/a> (north)\u00a0and Wuhou Shrine<\/a> (south) form a triangle and close to each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to visit Du Fu Thatched Cottage <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Du fu Thatched Cottage has three main gates \u2013 front gate, south gate and north. I suggest entering the south gate, and exit from north gate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the entrance of the garden path stands a screen wall with a hand writing \u201cThatched Cottage\u201d. In 1958, Ma Zedong took a photo here, hence the\u00a0representative tourist attraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
