Bordering Hebei Province, Changyucheng Great Wall boasts to have one of Beijing&#8217;s highest Great Wall towers at the sea-level of 1400 meters\u00a0with\u00a0stunning views.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The ancient Changyucheng military\u00a0walled city\u00a0was set up 500 years ago in Ming Dynasty to\u00a0accommodate the garrison manning the pass as well the nearby sections of the Great Wall. If the\u00a0soldiers stationed on the Great Wall on the high mountain\u00a0spotted invaders, the main troops in the pass city would\u00a0be dispatched\u00a0there to man the defenses.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Changyucheng Village is\u00a0located in Changping District, approxi.100km northwest of\u00a0the city center of Beijing.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">On Feb 13, 2011, with my co-worker, Xiao Hao,\u00a0we explored the ancient village Changyucheng and hiked\u00a0the Great Wall near the village despite of the snowfall\uff0ca frist stop on our 5-day <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/great_wall\/\">Great Wall tour<\/a>. We write the following travel tips for you to plan your own excursion to Changyucheng.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Beijing Downtown &#8211; Changyucheng Village Driving Route<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Drive along Jingzuang Highway G6, the same highway to Changping District,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/travel_blog\/great_wall_hiking\/juyongguan_pass_great_wall.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc; font-size: small;\">Juyongguan Great Wall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0\u00a0and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/travel_blog\/great_wall_hiking\/badaling_great_wall.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc; font-size: small;\">Badaling Great Wall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0.\u00a0We got off at Chenzhuang (Nankou) Exit 36 which is between the center of Changping District\u00a0and Juyongguan Great Wall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So, getting off Jingzuang Highway at Chenzhuang (Nankou) Exit 36 \u9648\u5e84(\u5357\u53e3)36\u51fa\u53e3, follow your nose north, then turn left at the Chenzhuang Bridge (\u9648\u5e84\u6865). Its former military pass town was one of three most famous border passes of the Great Wall around Beijing with ancient military importance.<\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">The ancient city wall in front of the village, embrasures and the defense inner town are still visible. The old gate is still there. On the west of the village and on the high platform, there is the Yongxing Temple with a history of over hundreds\u00a0of years.\u00a0In addition to\u00a0Yongxing Temple. At the foot of the Mountain<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Walking north from Changyucheng Village for 1.5km, and reach the foot of the mountain, where we start to climb up.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><strong>2. Little reservoir<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Hiking up, not far, in the middle of the hill, you will see\u00a0a small reservoir. The reservoir is as large as a school playground with its headwater coming from the mountain. So the view here is stunning with water passing through the forest. Some travelers just stop here BBQ, picnic and fishing. But at the time of our hiking, the reservoir is frozen with different views from other seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><strong>3.\u00a0A small forest<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">North of the reservoir, there is a small forest with tall trees. Jungle Corridor<br \/>\n<\/strong>Walking further up, you will pass under the &#8220;Jungle Corridor&#8221;. It is an informal name given to the road northeast of the boundary stone table.<\/p>\n<p>It is a passage through the forest with trees high up and dirt road on our feet as if you are walking in an enclosed corridor, hence &#8220;Jungle Corridor&#8221;. With you hiking higher up, the trees over your head\u00a0are disappeared. Then you reach the meadow.<\/p>\n<p>Before you reach the meadow, you have the most difficulty part of the hike, the most energy consuming. The Round Stone Mound on the mountain top<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">From the meadow or the big platform, you can see a round stone Mound on the mountain top. Hiking from the stone table up to the high stone mound, you can see the Great Wall snaking on the mountain range.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The watch tower is said to be the highest elevation of the watch towers in Beijing.
