Plan your Guangzhou\u00a0tour<\/strong><\/a>?\u00a0If you are going to visit Guangzhou\u00a0just in one day<\/strong><\/a>, you\u00a0should\u00a0include a\u00a0visit to\u00a0\u00a0the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall ((\u9648\u5bb6\u7960). The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall\u00a0was once\u00a0an ancestral shrine,\u00a0originally \u00a0built in 1888 and completed in 1894.<\/p>\n

The construction of the shrine was collectively\u00a0sponsored\u00a0by the 72 Chen clans\u00a0scattered in Guangdong Province\u00a0for the accommodation and preparation for the imperial examinations and official discussion\u00a0from Chen families in Qing Dynasty.<\/p>\n

Later it was\u00a0turned to be the Chen Clan\u2019s Industry College, and\u00a0later middle schools afterward. Now it\u00a0is home to\u00a0the Guangdong Folk Arts Museum.\u00a0 The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall\u00a0has\u00a09 halls, which are interspaced by 6 courtyards, and flanked by 10 wing rooms and connected by\u00a0verandas in the\u00a0traditional Lingnan style.<\/p>\n

It is\u00a0famed for the ornate decoration which is presented inside and outside the halls.\u00a0 A large collection of wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, pottery, plaster and iron engraving are seen on the wall , beams, columns, ridges, and \u00a0a trove of Chinese folk arts.<\/p>\n

The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall can easily reached by subway. You may take subway line\u00a01, get off at the station of Chenjiaci ( \u9648\u5bb6\u7960 – The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall) and \u00a0exit from Exit D.\u00a0\u00a0Out from \u00a0the subway station, you are able to see the ancestral shrine on your northeast side.\u00a0 So just have a light walk from the station to the ticketing office of the former ancestral hall.<\/p>\n

Follow me to have a close look at the magnificent carvings, statues and paintings with ornate scrollwork throughout the whole buildings of the ancestral shrine.<\/p>\n

With an area of 15,000 square meters, the Ancestral\u00a0 Hall is a symmetrical complex comprising 19 single buildings. The central axis is flanked on both sides by halls, wing-rooms and corridors. The single buildings are interspaced by courtyards and connected with verandas.<\/p>\n

The Ancestral Hall sits with its entrance facing the south and a spacious square in its front.<\/p>\n
