In China, each city had its own city wall in\u00a0ancient times, which was a massive defense system.\u00a0 If you have been to Xian, Nanjing or Pingyao,\u00a0 you must have been\u00a0 amazed by their ancient city walls that are well preserved and open to the public as hot tourist attractions.<\/p>\n

Guangzhou is now\u00a0 a center in the southern China in terms of culture, economy, sports and politics.\u00a0 Guangzhou has a history of over 2000 years back to the Qin Dynasty ( 221 BC to 207 BC) when the original city of Guangzhou was established. The ancient city wall was further widened and expanded during later successive kingdoms and dynasties including the Nanyue Kingdom, Song\u00a0 Synasty, Tang Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.<\/p>\n

Guangzhou ancient city wall was demolished\u00a0 from 1911 \u00a0and in 1922 all the city wall was torn down for building new city roads and streets\u00a0except one section of the Wall in Yuexiu Park.\u00a0 This only remaining section of the city wall was opened to the public in 2008 after\u00a0 renovation.<\/p>\n

This remaining city wall was built in 1380 in Ming Dynasty when the wall was expanded to its north city wall.\u00a0\u00a0Guangzhou Ming Dynasty City wall\u00a0relics\u00a0is located on the hills in Yuexiu Park\u00a0 The present section of the City Wall 1137m long with approx. 2- 1om high.\u00a0 Zhenghai Tower\u00a0is a built-in structure,\u00a0as a watch tower to keep out the pirates.<\/p>\n
