South of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/tips-for-visiting-tiananmen-square\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/tips-for-visiting-tiananmen-square\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tiananmen Square<\/a> and&nbsp;behind Zhengyang Gates is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/beijing-attractions-tips\/qianmen-street-a-famous-pedestrian-street-in-beijing\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/beijing-attractions-tips\/qianmen-street-a-famous-pedestrian-street-in-beijing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Qianmen<strong> <\/strong>Street<strong>,<\/strong><\/a> a pleasant walking area though some people complain&nbsp;this&nbsp;area&nbsp;is a bit touristy and crowded&nbsp;especially on weekends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 845m long street &nbsp;used to be a shopping and market area in the Ming and Qing dynasty ( 1368 &#8211; 1644 ) &nbsp;which&nbsp;has been&nbsp;totally&nbsp;renovated years before and is now a tourist haunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\u00a0the\u00a0main street you find some\u00a0time-honoured shops\u00a0and restaurants. \u00a0You may\u00a0 stroll along the smaller streets off the main street, the east side in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&nbsp;are plenty of small popular restaurants and stores.&nbsp; Here you can shop souvenirs,&nbsp;have a nice Peking Duck lunch, drink good quality tea at the tea shops.&nbsp; You&nbsp;can&nbsp; also encounter the Starbucks, KFC and McDonald&#8217;s&nbsp; along the main street.&nbsp;&nbsp;It&#8217;s a very&nbsp;nice place to feel and see&nbsp;the traditional life of local people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qianmen Street offers good photography opportunities. You can\u00a0\u00a0snap some good pictures with Chinese architecture in backdrop as well as Western elements. There are many more Chinese visitors\u00a0than westerners\u00a0along Qianmen Street which makes it feel more local and authentic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are some of the photos of Qianmen Street I took during my recent trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zhengyangmen\u00a0 ( or Zhengyang Gate\u00a0&#8211; \u00a0Arrow Tower)\u00a0 is colloquially called &#8220;Qianmen&#8221; ( Front\u00a0 Gate ), after which Qianmen Street is named.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qianmen Street is on the south of Zhengyangmen which is the south gate of the old inner city wall of Beijing.\u00a0 The gate is situated to the south of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/tips-for-visiting-tiananmen-square\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/tips-for-visiting-tiananmen-square\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tiananmen Square<\/a>.\u00a0 The North-south<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/beijing-attractions-tips\/beijing-central-axis\/\"><strong> <\/strong><\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/beijing-attractions-tips\/beijing-central-axis\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.tour-beijing.com\/blog\/beijing-travel\/beijing-attractions-tips\/beijing-central-axis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Central Axis of Beijing<\/a> passes through Zhengyangmen and Archway,&nbsp; the natural north entrance to Qianmen Street along the <strong>Central Axis of Beijing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a long.&nbsp; The picture below was taken at the south entrance of Qianmen Street where I looked at the northern end of the street.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure
