Yongdingmen Gate Tower was originally built 1553 in Ming Dynasty ( 1368 – 1644 ).\u00a0 Yongding Gate is the south starting point of the Central Axis of Beijing<\/a> which ends at the Drum Tower and Bell Tower in the north.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n So,\u00a0\u00a0the Central Axis of Beijing<\/a>\u00a0extends 7.8km from Yongdingmen Gate,\u00a0 passing through\u00a0\u00a0Zhengyang Gate, \u00a0Tian’anmen Square;\u00a0 further from Forbidden City, \u00a0Jingshan Hill through\u00a0 the Drum Tower and Bell Tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Central Axis of Beijing<\/a> is\u00a0a classic model of ancient Chinese urban planning,\u00a0a prominent position in the world history of urban planning and development.\u00a0Besides,\u00a0 the emperors in ancient China believed that they were the center of the world, so all of their palaces should be built on the center of the axis across “the center” from south to north of Beijing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The local government of Dongcheng District has been working hard to \u00a0get the\u00a0Beijing central axis recognized as a UNESCO world Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yongdingmen Gate was turned down in 1956.\u00a0It was rebuilt in the year 2004.
