Fujian Tulou<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong> <\/span>is the official name for\u00a0Hakka earth buildings that was crowned as World Culture Heritage site in 2008. The name of Fujian Tulou<\/span> has various versions on the internet including Hakka Houses, Hakka Tulou The Hakka dwellings,\u00a0Hakka Tulou earthen houses,\u00a0Hakka earth building and Hakka Fortress. They are mainly refered to the tulou in Yongding County\u00a0and Nanjing County in the southwest of Fujian Province. <\/span><\/div>\n

“Tulou” literally means earth (tu) houses (lou). These valuable assets are made the smart hard-working people who fled here between 12 century and 20th century\u00a0to get rid of the turmoil occuring in the middle of Fujian. These tulou were\u00a0constructed for defence purposes that\u00a0only has one entrance with windows high above the first floor. <\/span><\/div>\n

Fujian Tulou<\/span><\/strong><\/a> <\/span>were\u00a0dubbed as “a little kingdom for the family” that houses the whole clan or used\u00a0for a village. A tulou\u00a0has the\u00a0enclosed and fortified earth building, some rectangular or circular in configuration.<\/span><\/div>\n

Most Hakka earth houses are set in mountainous areas far from the coastlines. The legend has it that these earth housed were once mistaken\u00a0for numerous launching pads\u00a0during the\u00a0Ronald Reagan government.
