Miyun County is located about 80 Kilometers to the northeast of the downtown Beijing. It has an area of about 2,330 square kilometers. It is composed of 2 towns and 22 townships with a population of about about 420,000. Miyun is famous for its Miyun Reservoir, which was first constructed in 1958, one of the biggest reservoirs in North China, supplying Beijing residents with potable water. It produces haws,chestnuts and walnuts. Miyun County is also regardes as a "scenic suburban park of mountains and rivers in Beijing." The famous Simatai Great Wall, and the ancient strategic military town of Gubeikou are located within Miyun County, as well as the roads and places visited by emperors in the past. It possesses the Wuling and Yunmeng mountain national forest parks, and the Taoyuan Fairy Gorge Scenic Area.

Pick you up at your hotel at 8:00am. First go to the Miyun Reservoir, lying 100 km northeast of Beijing City. It is a mountain valley reservoir. Two main rivers, Chaohe and Baihe, blend into Miyun Reservoir. Take a walk around the reservoir in the valley. These valleys are peaceful and picturesque with small villages, dusty tracks, crab-apple orchards and plots of maize and peanuts. You can walk further where you want to go with tall mountains towering above you. You will enjoy the farmer's lunch with the locals. You have local flavors such as cakes made of roasted corn flour, millet and mung bean gruel, green vegetables grown in the courtyard, special dishes such as Chinese toon leaves and tofu, and preserved vegetables made by the farmers themselves. After lunch, move on to the Black Dragon Pool ( heilongtan ). The pool is situated up in the mountains, dotted with smaller ponds and waterfalls. It is a cool place to go out for a hot summer day,strolling leisurely around the pool and the rocks. After the tour transferred back to your hotel in downtown Beijing. ( L )
