My First Encounter with Nanshan Ski Resort
Today is November 20, 2008. It is said that most of the ski resorts around Beijing are now preparing for the hetic market competition for the winter skiing. They are recruiting part time staff, cleaning houses and the most important, making the snow!
It takes us about one and half hours to get to Nanshan Ski Resort. When we enter the main gate, the whole ski resort is spreaded in front of us. We are all amazed or even shocked at the views - over 10 snowmaking machines are shooting "artificial snow or man-made snow"! Snowmaking is the production of snow by forcing water and pressurized air through a "snow gun" or "snow cannon", on ski slopes. How much water is needed for the whole ski mountain area? It must be very costly and waste a lot of water.

Mr. Guo, the ski resort manager, tells us that this weekend, all the skiers will enjoy free skiing as the soft opening of Nanshan Ski Resort this year. he says Nanshan Ski Resort maintains the longest service period each year among all the ski resorts in Beijing -lasting about 4 months every year. Nanshan Ski Resort is one of the best ski resorts in Beijing. It has 10 well built trails for all levels of skiers. Nanshan has many ski and snowboard instructors - some of them trained by the Austria Snowboard Association. To feed the great number of skiers, they have a big Nanshan Chinese Restaurant, one smaller Terrace Restaurant and Pub.

There is a big building named "Nanshan Ski Service Center". It is a place where you rent your snow skis, snowboards, ski clothes and Accessories. It is a two-storey building. The second floor caters for VIP skiers, and looks cleaner and better decorated. To be a VIP skier is not expensive. If you pay extra RMB 50, then you can become a VIP member! So you can get away from the more crowded first floor.
The Second floor ski service center

Inside the first floor, you will find a lot of snow skis, snowboards, ski shoes, ski clothes and more ski Accessories.

Nanshan Ski Resort boast of over 50 ski instructors. So if you are not a beginner, don't worry, pay a little more to be educated in a practical manner so that you can take your skiing easily.

The huge parking lot tells us that the ski market share is not small for Nanshan Ski Resort.
