We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Inner Mongolia Experience Tour

As the stated company tour once a year, this year the travel destination is Inner Mongolia. With grassland scenes and folk customs as its two major tourisms, Inner Mongolia has such natural scenes as vast grasslands, deserts, forests, and lakes. A poem once described the grassland like this:” the blue sky resembles yurt that covers places all around. On the vast grassland, a blast of wind bows grasses down and cow and sheep comes into your eye”, so all of us dreamed of this picture. We spend two days in Inner Mongolia, one day in the Gegentala Grassland in Hohhot and the other day in Kubuqi Desert in Baotou.

Arriving at Hohhot Station and having breakfast
We began our 2-day Inner Mongolia tour at 9:00pm by train K89. After 10 hours, we arrived in Hohhot railway station at 7:20am. The weather in Hohhot is a little colder than Beijing this season, but it is lucky we all prepared warmer clothes. Our guide met us warmly and took us to a restaurant near the station. Then we began our breakfast.

The Hohhot Railway Station

Our buffet breakfast. It is more various than we thought, offering all kinds of dishes, soups, and snacks. Of course, it prepared the delicious milk tea-the local specialty.

On the corner of restaurant there is a fresco on the wall. It is old-timey, isn’t it?

On the way to Gegentala Grassland
After the breakfast, we set off for our first destination-Gegentala Grassland. It took us about half and two hours on the road. Our guide was kind enough. She introduced Hohhot city to us in detail, such as the Chinese translation of Hohhot, the historical story of the city as well as its development nowadays. Approaching to the grassland, through the window, the outside is wider and wider, stretching to the horizon and covering green grass and trees. It seems that the end of the green land is connected with the blue sky.

Our kindly guide. She is good at singing and sang many song about grassland. She was appreciated to accompany us two days.

The welcome ceremony in Gegentala Grassland
We arrived at Gegentala grassland at noon. Inner Mongolia is a hospitable minority. Traditionally, when tourists arrived, they usually wear their national clothes and propose a toast to welcome your arrival. You will drink in there song. Of course the grade of ceremony depends on the degree of the tourist. We are lucky enough to see a grand toast to welcome an important person. The pictures are as follows.

The Inner Mongolian girls and chaps held Hada, a piece of silk used as a greeting gift in Inner Mongolia, to welcome the important person’s arrival.

Several people wear animal’s masts blaze a way in front of the guests.

The chariot yurt
Before the lunch, we have an hour time to check in the hotel and have a rest. Our hotel is chariot yurt, which was the place to discuss official business for general in the old time of war. It is clean and the bed is warm and soft. The equipments are completed and it is full of folk flavor.
