Pingyao Shuanglin Temple
Shuanglin Temple has a long history, about 6kms from Pingyao City. The architecture has an appearance of castile, surrounded with soil wall. Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, the temple consists of ten halls on the north-south axis with the main halls facing the south. The west is the temple courtyard, and the east are scripture cabinet, Buddhist yard, as well as monk shed. Along the axis are Tianwang Palace, Sakyamuni Palace, Daxiong Baodian and the Palace of the Buddha’s Mother.
It is highly noted as “the Treasure of Orient Painte d Sculpture” for its abundant painted sculptures. The best preserved painted sculptures are up to 2,056 totally with different sizes. They are lifelike with the sky-high artistic value. The fresco show the process of Sakyamuni succeeded into a Buddha. The statue of 18 Arhats are the soul in the Arhat Palace.
