Day By Day Itinerary

Day 01 (Thu): Kunming Arrival
Arrival at Kunming airport, met by our English speaking tour guide and transferred to your hotel in Kunming. You are free for rest of the day and relax in the Spring City of China - Kunming. Overnight at Long Way Hotel **** (city center )

Day 02 (Fri): Kunming - Dali by flight ( B L )
You are transferred to Kunming airport for early morning flight ( 07:00 – 07:30 ) from Kunming to Dali (35min). Upon arrival, first visit Xizhou Bai minority's village to explore Bai's old residential house and then have a cruise on Erhai Lake to see how locals catch fish with osprey.

After lunch, visit the Three Pagodas and the Dali Ancient Town with a history of 1,300 years, the home to Bai minority. With its layout like a chess board having four gates guarding in the directions of east, south, west and north, the town stands between Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake, a natural location that seems specially designed for a good eco-life.

Dinner today is on your own with many choices of local flavors. Overnight in Landscape Hotel **** ( located along the so-called foreigners'sstreet in the old town).

Day 03: (Sat) Dali - Lijiang by road ( B L D )
Take a 200km overland drive (3 hours) up to Lijiang, a gathering place of the Naxi minority. Lijiang Ancient Town is a mountain town of stone and tile, crisscrossed with canals and lanes, which has been listed as an UNESCO world site.

Then visit the Black Dragon Pond with Dongba Culture Museum. The ancient town is in the form of an official ink stone. Different from most of the old towns in China, there is no city wall around Lijiang Old Town due to a superstitious belief of the local ruler whose family name is Mu (tree), who believed that when encircled by walls, people would be Kun (besieged). You will also climb up the Lion Hill for a bird's eye view of the old town.

Overnight in Lijiang Old Town Hotel **** ( at the very center of the old town).

Day 04 (Sun): Lijiang ( B L )
Today you will explore the Baisha Naxi Village with Baisha Frescos, then visit Yufeng Monastery and Shuhe Old Town. Finally visit the Yuhu Village with the traces of Former Residence of Joseph Rock, the Austro-American botanist and explorer who lived here from 1922 to 1949, introducing innumerable plant species to the West and completing rigorous works on Naxi ethnology.

Dinner today will be on your own for a taste of the local flavors. Overnight in Lijiang Old Town Hotel ****

Day 05 (Mon): Lijiang Departure ( B )
Transfer to airport for departure flight for your next destination and end of the 5 day tour.
Remark: There are direct flights from Lijiang to Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing & Guangzhou via Kunming.

Extension A: 2-day Shangri-la Extension Tour

Day 05 (Mon): Lijiang - Shangri-la ( B L D )
Take a 200km drive to Shangri-la (4.5 hours).
Stop on the way for a great view of the Yangtze River's near-180-degree turn. Then view the Tiger Leaping Gorge. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountains and the Haba Snow Mountains stands close to each other and a large volume of torrent moving between them cutting deeper and deeper into the bottom of the gorge.

Upon arrival in Shangri-la, drive to the ancient town of Shangri-la and check into Shangri-la Shiner Hotel ****. You are at leisure on your own exploration around the town.


Day 06 (Tue): Shangri-la (or Gyalthang in Tibetan) ( B L D )
First visit Geden Songzanglin Monastery with 700 monks and one living Buddha, which was founded in the 17th century during the reign of the Fifth Dalai Lama and is nicknamed by local the Lesser Potala Palace.

Continue to have a half day tour of Pudacuo National Park with virgin forests of spruce, pine and meadow dotted with wild flowers and tranquil lakes. After the tour, go back to the town, and visit a Tibetan family.

Day 07 (Wed): Shangri-la - Kunming (B)
You are transferred to Shangri-la airport for morning flight to Kunming. End of the tour in Kunming. You may connect your departure flight for your next destination or free on your own in Kunming.


Extension B: 3-day Shangri-la + Kunming Stone Forest Extension Tour

Day 05 (Mon): Lijiang - Shangri-la ( B L D )
Take a 200km drive to Shangri-la (4.5 hours).

Day 07 (Wed): Shangri-la - Kunming Stone Forest ( B L D )
You are transfderred to Shangri-la airport and take morning flight for Kunming. Take a 85km drive (1.5h) to the Stone Forest. The Stone Forest is an extremely rare geological phenomenon dating back to 270 million years ago with 80 hectares of karst limestone pillars in fantastic shapes that resemble a forest viewed from a distance.

The Stone Forest is also home to the Sani tribe, a branch of the diverse and scattered Yi minority renowned for their diligence, embroidery and dancing.

After the Stone Forest tour, drive back to Kunming, and visit the local Flowers & Birds Market. Then head to a Chinese tea cooking ceremony and taste Yunnan's world famous Pu'er Tea. Dinner: taste local specilty of bridge-crossing Ricenoodle, etc. Overnight in Kunming Long Way Hotel ****

Day 08 (Thu): Kunming Departure ( B )
You are transferred to Kunming airport for your departure flight for your next destination or free on your own.
