The hotel is rated 5*s, but really should be 4*s. That said, it is a very attractive hotel, with comfortable rooms and good facilities. We spent two nights at the hotel and were pleased with the amenities and the service. The buffet breakfast was adequate, but could benefit from additional choices for westerners. We would recommend the hotel highly, but was the caveat that people should expect a good 4-star hotel, not an opulent 5-star that is comparable to newer hotels in Beijing and Shanghai.

What I liked best about this hotel is its location. Its probably the best in the city because its blocks from the Green Lake park but also within walking distance of many restaurants and for those needing a Walmart fix its close by as well. The lobby was open and spacious with beautiful fresh flowers, the dining room was also nice and large with a good food variety at breakfast Western and Asian. Try the Crossing the Bridge Noodles for breakfast. The rooms were small with furnishings that seemed to be pretty dated and was nothing fancy but was comfortable enough. Overall our experience was better at the Green Lake Hotel just down the street but the Green Lake is also more expensive. For more budget concious the Grand Park is the second best option in Kunming.

This is a clean, well managed hotel with nice rooms, very good bedding and a terrific location. Food is very good, especially the breakfast and staff are helpful. The only hiccup we had was the usual problem of staff turning a blind eye to smoking at a non-smoking table (right next to us) but once it was pointed out they dealt with it.
