The Yak Hotel is a famous hotel in the heart of the city of Lhasa in Tibet. It is about 100kms from the airport and only a five minute walk from Tibet’s holiest temple, the Jokhang, Ramoche monastery, and the Barkhor street.

The hotel’s restaurant is located to the left of the front gate of the hotel. It serves excellent Tibetan and Chinese cuisine. It is one of the best and most well known.

Guest Reviews:

The hotel is quite basic, but overall good. We first had a room overlooking the back yard. The room didn't have much sun and was almost freezing. This was so unpleasant that we have asked to change it to a street sunny part of the hotel and found that in rooms altogether were nicer (better furnitured) and warmer there. From that day our stay in hotel was very pleasant. Staff is very friendly, but may be less helpful due to sometimes limited knowledge of foreign languages. Good hotel anyway.

I truly enjoyed my stay in Lhasa and the hotel has an excellent location close to the town square. It is not too far to walk to the Potala palace either where you have a fantastic fountain show at night between 21.00-22.15. Clean rooms. The only downside is breakfast - they have most things, but not so tasty, but the good thing is that it is on the roof, with great views!

A variety of rooms are available depending on your budget. There is no room service or anything fancy but the room we had was comfortable, warm and cosy with a great ensuite bathroom. It also had the most comfortable bed we slept on during the whole trip. Great location just across the road from the old quarter. Only problem was hot water - the staff tried their best but we only managed to get one luke warm shower in three days - the rest of the time it was icy! They really need to get this problem sorted.
