Mentougou District is situated on the west of Beijing with an area of about 1,330 square kilometers. It is composed of eighteen townships and five neighborhood committees with a population of over 270,000. The 98% of the district is a mountainous area with over 100 peaks. It is rich in coal, limestone,and granite reserves. Usually temples are nestled in the mountains, and Mentougou is no exception. There are two famous temples in the district: Jietai Temple and Tanzhe Temple. In this district you can find many well preserved old villages like Chuan Di Xia Village.

Our tour guide picks you up from your hotel. First drive to Tanzhe Temple. The Tanzhe Temple is a typical Buddhist temple, lies in the Tanzhe Hills on the western outskirts of Beijing. It was the first temple that built in the Beijing area. It was built during the Jin Dynasty (AD265- 420),. So there is a saying that "First there was the Tanzhe Temple, then there was Beijing." After touring Tanzhe Temple, drive to Jietai Temple. After lunch there, go on with the visit to the famous temple. Jietai Temple, also called temple of the ordination altar, is situated to west of Beijing. It gets its name from the famous Ming marble ordination altar. It was first consructed about 1,300 years ago, this altar is about 5 meters (16 feet) high and decorated with delicate, elegant carvings. After touring the temple, transferred back to your hotel in the city.
