History: In 1687, Qing Dynasty set up Dinghai County in this area. After the Haidao Liberation in 17th, May, 1949, Dinghai Government was established. In 1959, Dinghai, Putuo, Daishan and Shensi were combined into Zhoushan County. In July, 2011, State Department authorized Zhoushan as the 4th national district.
Climate: For its monsoon marine climate, Zhoushan characterizes warm winter and cool summer. It has an annual average temperature of 16℃. In the hottest August, the mean temperature is 25.8℃-28.0℃. In the winter, the mean temperature is 5.2℃-5.9℃. It has abundant sunshine. The annual mean sunlight is 1941-2257hours. The rainfall reaches to 927-1620mm.
Transportation: Air-Zhoushan Putuo Airport is a domestic hub with scheduled passenger flights to several cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xianmen and Jinjiang.
Waterway-Two major ferry connects Zhoushan to Shanghai to the north and Ningbo to the south. There are several scheduled ships travelling between Zhoushan and other ports, such as Wenzhou and Fuzhou.
Zhoushan Trans-Oceanic Bridge is the largest bridge complex in the world. It consists of five consecutive bridges which connects Zhoushan to the mainland.
Local Food: Seafood is very popular in Zhoushan. The best dishes include Zhoushan Seafood Noodle, Guanyin Pancake, Shrimp Dumpling, Fish Skin Dumpling, and Seafood Steaming Paozi.
Attraction: Putuo Mountain- Putuo Mountain (普陀山), together with Wutai Mountain in Shanxi, Emei Mountain, and Jiuhua Mountain are four famous Buddhist mountains of China. Putuo Mountain is noted for its rough terrain and exquisite landscape. The clouds like sails, scattered about, and the sea and the sky bore a same blurred color. The mountain rises alone over the East China Sea. Sailing near, one can see verdant trees, strange rocks, mysterious temples, and huge inscriptions carved on stones.
Zhujiajian- Zhujiajian (朱家尖) is famous for its beach, which is acknowledged as the one of the best beaches in the world. Covering an area of 72 square kilometers, Zhujiajian is situated in the eastern sea areas of Zhoushan City. There are four famous scenic spots on Zhujiajian: Black cobblestone dyke, Baishan, ten-mile sand beach, Daqingshan.
