We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Location: Yangquan (阳泉) is situated in the east of Shanxi Province.

Population: 1,319,600

Area: with an area of 4,452 square kilometers

Nationalities: Han

History: Yangquan has a long history, which could be traced back to mid-paleolithic period. Due to its dangerous topography, Yangquan has been the battlefield in history. Yangquan got the name for five rippling springs. Historically, it was always a strategic point that commenced construction as a military fortress as early as in the late Warring States Period (476BC-221BC).

In 1905, the first railway in Shanxi passed through Yangquan and set a station here. After that time, more and more mining smelting enterprises were founded, making here the birthplace of modern industry of Shanxi province.

Climate: Yangquan enjoys a sub-humid warm temperate continental monsoon climate, featured windy spring, rainy summer, cool autumn and dry winter. The annual average temperature is 5 °C -10 °C and annual rainfall is 550—570.

Transportation: Railway- Yangquan Railway Station lies at De Sheng Dong Jie, providing ways to Taiyuan, Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Tangshan, and Shijiazhuang. City bus 1, 4, 16, 21, 22, 25, 402 can reach here.

Highway- Yangquan Long-Distance Bus Station is at Sanjiaoxian Road, serving passengers to/fromPingyao, Yuci, Zhengzhou, etc.

Local Food: Just like the other places of Shanxi, noodles is the main food, the famous local food in Yangquan is Piao Min Qu and Pingding Dou Ye Cai.

Attraction: Niangzi Pass- Niangzi Pass is about 75km from Dingxing county, Yangquan city. Embraced by water and mountains, Niangzi Pass is granted as ‘the Ninth Pass on the Great Wall’. The extant pass was built in Ming Dynasty, about in 1542. In ancient times, the pass was narrow enough to proved for one man or horse.
