We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Zhouzhi Chant

Chant is a folk opera singing its catechism teachings and services of Taoism, promote the Taoist self-cultivation, to reach the purpose of praising virtue and punishing vice. Taoism use "clear, virtuous, integrity and publicity" the four word as the doctrine.

Zhouzhi County has a long history and Zhouzhi County Louguantai is the place where Laozi (Lier) gave lectures. Later, in the Han, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Louguantai become the country's famous Taoist temple, and it has attracted many officials and visitors every year. In this case, someone recomposed Taoist classics, literature, etc. into chant. Louguantai is also the birthplace of this folk art form.

Originally the Taoist broadcast self-cultivation, change the evil and reward good for the purpose. But Taoism called it "attunement." Zhouzhi chant features are: meticulous, mild, sweet, beautiful, lively, prosperous, where "waves" (collectively take sound) is rare in another drama and it can make the concert livelier.

Concerts contents are mainly "Eight Immortals Story" which mainly manifested loyalty, filial piety, righteousness and there are other content. Concert repertoire: "Whipped Reed Catkins ", "Baihua Mountain", "Selling Robes", "Bacha Poems" and so on. It has five composition of music (press room vocals): treble wave, flat tone, a shortwave, flower sonic coda and plum tune. Its music has particularly strong Taoist music color.

Zhouzhi chant(周至道情) not only reflect the farming civilization of Guanzhong human life forms, but also reflect Taoism, Confucianism conscious image in the Guanzhong area. The study of the development of agricultural production and social customs, ideology has a certain reference value. It is an important part of Shanghai culture.

Because Zhouzhi chant use "clear, virtuous, integrity and publcity" as the doctrine. Clear, it is pure inaction. Virtuous means people should have high moral character. Integrity means people should have a sharp sense of integrity. Publicity is to promote the teachings of meaning. The earliest chant was played by a Taoist who wandered to take a fish drum to play music. Later it transferred to the private sector, which forms a person singing, all together echo. After a long evolution, and gradually form a story plot concert repertoire. Because the main melody and phrases of the chant arising from Taoism through rhyme, so listen to the chant is like singing and chanting priests.
