We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Chongshan Temple

Situated in the southeast of Taiyuan, Chongshan Temple (崇善寺) was built in Tang Dynasty. The present temple was once extended in Ming Dynasty, about 1381. The temple is covered with an area of 140,000 square km. Originally, it was called White House Temple, and then renamed as Chongshan Temple, which means great mercy temple.

Chongshan Temple is a royal Buddhist temple, which is the home to the Buddhist Association of Shanxi Province. However, during 1864, Chongshan Temple was caught a fire, and the main buildings were burned into ruins. Today only one-fortieth of the monastery survives, including the Dabei Hall, the Temple Gate, the Bell Tower, and the east and west wing rooms.  The area of the existing Temple is 80% of its original one

Dabei Temple sits on the broad basis, forming a sense of grandeur and solemnity. The hall is equipped with heavy eaves, currently; it is the most well-preserved wooden architecture of the early Ming Dynasty. The ancient drum pavilions and bell pavilions are standing along both sides of Dabei Temple.

Chongshan Temple also keeps numerous precious cultural relics, such as Hua-yan Jing. It was written by the monk Jing-jie during the Ming Dynasty, using his own blood as ink. Nowadays, Hua-yan Jing is collected on the right side of the main hall.
