We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

The Master of Nets Garden in Suzhou

The Master of Nets Garden (网师园) was once a scholar’s garden, named after its Fisheman’s hermitage. It is the smallest of Suzhou’s four classical gardens, but regarded as the moat attractive. The Master of Nets Garden has won the titles of world cultural heritage site, a scenic spot of national 4A level and historical and cultural relics.

The charm of the garden is derived from the exquisite balance of shape, arrangement and form with the buildings, pond and rockeries perfectly arranged. The garden was first constructed in 1174 by Shi Zhengzhi, a government official. The garden is also a private library of Shi Zhengzhi where hold thousands of his private collections.

Covering an area of 5,400 square meters, the Master of Nets Garden is divided into two parts: the eastern house and the western garden. Eastern section is the residential area which contains a linear sequence of four halls, one tower and three courtyards. The garden lies to the northwest of the house, making up four fifth of the total area.

Quite different from the normal architecture in the east, the garden architecture enjoys a considerable degree of free. Varieties of building are laid out to meet the needs of reading, painting, viewing, resting, sipping tea .holding small banquets among scholarly friends, capping verse, performing on a musical instrument, meditating on nature and cultivating one's mind. The two dominant elements of the composition are the Barrier of Cloud grotto, a cypress tree dating from the Ming Dynasty, and pine several centuries old.
