History: As far as the Naolithic Age, human being has been lived the area. During Spring and Autumn Period, Shaoxing was established as a city 2500 years ago. Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China conquered Yue State and established Yue State as Kuaiji Jun in 222B.C.. (Jun is an old unit of administrative division in old China). In 129 A.D.the East Han Dynasty, Kuaiji Jun was divided into two parts: Kuaiji Jun and Wu Jun. Shaoxing was under direct administrative of Kuaiji Jun.
The Emperor of Sui Dynasty set up Wuzhou and changed Kuaiji Jun into Kuaiji County n 589 A.D. In 1131 in South Song Dynasty, the Emperor of that time changed Yuezhou into Shaoxing Fu. (Fu is another old unit of administrative division in old China). Today’s Shaoxing derived its name from Shaoxing Fu. During the Republic of China, Shaoxing Fu was changed into Shaoxing Administrative Supervisory Area. In 1983, Shaoxing was officially granted as Shaoxing City, directly under the administration of Zhejiang Province.
Climate: Shaoxing enjoys the prevailing monsoon climate of the eastern Asia. It has warm and moist weather with four distinctive seasons. The mean annual temperature is 16.5℃ and annual rainfall is 1300mm. Shaoxing has two rainy seasons: one during March to June and the other during September. The most pleasant month to visit Shaoxing is May.
Transportation: Shaoxing is the geographic center and traffic gorge of Zhejiang. It is developed in highway, railway, water transportation and shipping. There is no airport in Shaoxing, but it is 30km away to Xiaoshan International Airport of Hangzhou and 230km to Shanghai.

Attraction: Orchid Pavilion National Forest Park-Orchid Pavilion National Forest Park (兰亭国家森林公园) is in the north foot of Mount Kuaiji, about 12 km southwest of Shaoxing city. It is a resort gathering breathtaking natural scenery as well as the rich calligraphic culture. In 353, Wang Xizhi, a well-known calligrapher once wrote the “Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection”, which making the spot a holy land of calligraphy.
Shen Garden-Shen Garden (沈园) was a private garden of Shen Family in Song Dynasty. It was famous for the love story between the great poet Lu You and Tang Wan. Tang Wan. Covering an area of over 600 square kilometers, Shen Garden was divided into three parts including Guji Area, Dongyuan and Nanyuan.
