We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Shannan Travel Guide

Location: Shannan(山南) is located in the south of Gangdise mountains and Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, the middle and lower reaches of the mainstream of Yarlung Zangbo River. Shannan has more than 600 km long border line, has a very important strategic position. It is China's southwest border.

History: Shannan Prefecture is one of the cradles of ancient civilization in Tibet so that it has a long history and splendid culture. About forty or fifty thousand years ago, Tibetan ancestors had thrived along the Yarlung region. About at the beginning of the 2nd century BC, people living in the vicinity of the Yarlung evolved tribes. The first generation of Zamprogna Nie Chi unified the yak tribe, build aligned regime and established the hereditary descendants Zamprogna system.

Around the 6th century, the Yarlung area enter into the slave society. Residents have been able to smelt iron, copper, silver, manufactured metal weapons. In mid-7th century, thirty second generation Zamprogna Srongtsen Gampo conquered other small tribes, unified Tibet Plateau and established the Tibetan government. And then he gradually moved the political, economic and cultural center from Qiongjie to Lhasa.

In 1240, Mongol Prince Godan trooped into Tibet. After Liangzhou Alliance, the central government of the Yuan Dynasty took Tibet into effective jurisdiction, ending 400 years of the split situation. In successive dynasties, Tibet was under their jurisdiction.

On May 23, 1951, Tibet was peaceful liberated. By the end of December, the CPC Tibet Work Committee appointed in Shannan fiscal procurement station. In 1952, the CPC set up Gyantse sub-committee, Shannan belongs to the jurisdiction of CPC Gyantse committee. On March 29, 1969, the Revolutionary Committee of Shannan Prefecture was established. 12 counties was under the jurisdiction of the Revolutionary Committee. October 1978, the Shannan Revolutionary Committee was renamed Shannan prefecture.

Climate: Shannan has a temperate arid climate and the southern border area is a plateau sub-frigid semi-arid climate. Average annual rainfall is less than 450 mm and the rainfall is more concentrated in the rainy season from June to September. The whole area is 2600-3300 hours of sunshine per year. The lowest annual average temperature is 6 ℃ and the highest annual temperature is up to 8.8 ℃; the highest temperature is 31 ℃ (Gajah), the lowest temperature of minus 37 ℃ (Cona). The average annual wind speed is about 3 m / s, the maximum wind speed is 17 m / s. Wind period mainly in December to next March.

Transportation: Air- Gonggar Airport is located in the Bamboo Forest Town of Shannan Gonggar County, located in the magnificent south bank of the Brahmaputra, one of the world's highest civilian airport.

Highway- Northern suburbs of Lhasa bus terminal has long-distance shuttle to Shannan every day, including Qushui, Gongga, zhanang, Sangri, Zedong.

Attractions: Yamdrok Lake (羊卓雍错), referred to as sheep lake, less than 100 kilometers away from Lhasa. Together with Namtso Lake, and Lake Manasarovar, they are three holy lakes in Tibet. It is the largest inland lake in the Himalayan Mountains. The beauty of the lake ranks first among the Tibetan South. Yamdrok Lake is known as the world's most beautiful water. Yangzhuoyongcuo, "yang", above; "Zhuo" ranch; "Yong", jasper; "cuo", lake. So the whole name means "Jasper Lake above the ranch."
