We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Nanjing Ming Xiaoling Tomb

Located at the south foot of Zhongshan, Nanjing Ming Xiaoling Tomb(明孝陵) is the mausoleum of the first emperor of Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang and his empress. For its grand scale, unique structure, and exquisite setting, Ming XIaoling Tomb has been drawing visitors from home and abroad. In 2003, Ming Xiaoling Tomb was inscribed by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage Sites "Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties".

The tomb was constructed in 1381 and completed in 1413 with a huge expenditure of resources involving 100,000 laborers, under heavy guard of 5,000 military troops. Its structure adopted the style of Tang and Song, and influents the Ming and Qing Dynasty deeply.

The Sacred Way

The tomb is 22.5km long, with magnificent palaces and pavilions inside. In the middle of the 1800-meter-long winding sacred way, 6 kinds and 12 pairs of animals guard the tomb. Beyond them is a pair of decorative columns called huabiao in Chinese. Four pairs of ministers and generals have been standing there for centuries to accompany His Majesty beneath.

The Central Area

The main body of the tomb is started with the Golden Water Bridge (Jinshuiqiao). Through the bridge, you will see the main gate called Wen Wu Archway.  Outside the gate, there is a stone tablet with words carved in six languages notifying visitors of the importance of the mausoleum.
