We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Wave Well

Located in Langjing Lane on Xiyuan Road, Jiujiang, the Wave Well (浪井) is under the shield of a square pavilion, on which the track of rope deeply carved, with mottled moss spreading around the surface of the well. Downside the well the water is as limpid as a mirror. The Wave Well, which is also known as Guanying Well and Rui Well, is the most historical relic within Jiujiang region. According to the record of Zhangjian (Jin Dynasty) in Xunyang Note, the well was established by Guanying, a famous general in Han Dynasty, when he led his troops in Jiujiang and stationed here.

Compared with other wells in urban area, the distinctive feature of the Wave Well lies in that there will be sounds generated from the well once the Yangtze River begins to surge. Libai (a prestigious poet in Tang Dynasty) argued that it was owing to the mouth of spring, which served as a connection between well water and the Yangtze River. Hence the roaring waves in Yangtze River would result in the sounds from the well. Sushi (another eminent poet in Song Dynasty) suggested that the sound was resulted from the underground water which was flowing out of the mouth of well.

Till now, a verification of the two suggestions is still unaccountable. According to the record of Sangqiao, a scholar in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), during the period of Jiaqing (1796-1820), someone had reached the mouth of the well when dug the well. After recognized that the sound was echoed to the wave of the Yangtze River, in fear of the vehemence of the water, he filled up the well again.

Down through the history, the well endured for throusands of years, while the sound of waves to date are no longer available to be recognized, nor could people come up with the time the sound disappeared. No matter it was owing to the conduction of dam on the River, as the underground passage was blocked by the stones assembled around the hill, or to the decline of the water table, the secret lies itself within the roaring river that was transported to further area.
