We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Lake Gantang

the Lake Gantang (甘棠湖) is one of the most favored attractions within Jiujiang City, which was known as Lake Jingyang in the past. Occupied an area of 80 hectares, the lake is a natural lake with water spontaneously flowing in, near Mount Lu in the south, bordering Yangtze River to the north. The average depth of the river is 1.4 meters, with the deepest region down to 2.4 meters. It is 2 kilometers long from east to west and 1.9 kilometers wide from the south to the north. The water flowed down along Mount Lu, which concentrated here as the water source of Lake Gantang, rendering the lake as a pearl carved in the center of ancient Xuyang City (Now referred to as Jiujiang).

By the end of Han Dynasty, Zhouyu, an eminent commander of Wu, had drilled his troops here. Bai Juyi, the “Sima” of Jiangzhou in Han Dynasty, erected a pavilion in the center of the Lake, and named it “Jinyue”, an excerpt from his poem. The named was changed into “Yanshui” during Song Dynasty, which was stemmed from the poem of foggy scenery. It was also known as Zhouyu’s Platform for Military Drills.
