We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Locations: Jilin City(吉林市) is located in the central part of Jilin Province, northeastern side of Mt.Changbai, and most of its land is surrounded by Songhua Lake.

Nationalities: Han, Koreans, Manchu, Mongol and Hui.

History: Jilin City is among one of the oldest cities in Northeast China as the origin of Manchu, who lived there before Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.). During the reign of the Yongle Emperor (1403-1424), efforts were made to expand control throughout entire Manchuria. Jilin was officially established as a fort city in 1673 when the Deputy Lieutenant-General was ordered to build a castle in Jilin. The nickname of Jilin City is River City, which was originated from one sentence of a poem written by Kangxi Emperor while he was visiting Jilin City in 1682. Jilin retained its importance into the 18th and 19th century as one of the few cities existing beyond the Willow Palisade.

By 1940, Jilin's population was 173,624, while Hsinking's population reached 544,202 at the same time. Jilin eventually became the provincial capital of Jilin Province after the establishment of the People's Republic of China, until Changchun took its position in 1956.

Climate: Jilin City has a monsoon-influenced, humid continental climate. Winters are long, cold, and windy, but dry, due to the influence of the Siberian anticyclone, with a January mean temperature of −17.3 °C (0.9 °F). Spring and autumn are somewhat short transitional periods, with some precipitation, but are usually dry and windy. Summers are hot and humid, with a prevailing southeasterly wind due to the East Asian monsoon; July averages 22.8 °C (73.0 °F). Light Snow is common in winter, whereas annual rainfall is heavily concentrated from June to August.

Transportation: The most convenient way to the arrival of Jilin City is by car or by rail.

Railways- By the end of 2010, Changchun-Jilin line, the first high speed railway in Jilin, had been completed. Besides, lines including Jilin-Huichun under construction right now are strengthened the relationship between Jilin City and other suburban cities within the province.

Highways- There are 2 National Highways, 6 Provincial Highway and 28 Township Highways within the region of Jilin City, depending on which tourists are enabled to an economical and convenient arrival of the city. 

Waterways- It is estimated that there are 550-kilometer-long navigable mileages within the city, with 561 vessels (in which 427 vessels belong to Songhua Lake Ferry Station) picking hundreds of thousands tourists annually.

Local Specialties: As a huge natural resource of precious herbs, Jilin City is popular for Rhodiola Rosea, Ginseng and Antler. Besides, Songhua Lake root-carving and bark painting are also traditional artistic crafts that gained fame for the delicate decoration and cultural implication.

Local Foods: Most residents within Jilin City are attuned to the eating habits with Northeast and Korean feature, with representative gourmets including Double cooked pork, Cold noodles, Steamed sliver carp, Stewed chicken with ginseng, and so forth. 

Attractions: Jilin Rime (吉林雾凇) - Endowed with the idyllic impression as “the spring out of winter”, Jilin Rime was entitled among the Natural Wonders in China. When the snow visits the ground and freezes the land, streams originated from Songhua Lake will continue their journey and extend as far as possible regardless of the freezing weather. Tops of Rimes are covered with the smoke of water, innocent and graceful, like magnified snowflakes and silver craft.

Songhua Lake (松花湖) - Songhua Lake covers an area of a total 700 Square Kilometers, esteemed as “the Best Lake of Summer Resort”. It is located in the southeastern region within the city, about 15 kilometers away from the main urban zone. It has attracted countless tourists with its majestic landscape of mountains and bright scenery of snow.
