Huanglong Trip

On October 13-15, 2010, we, a group of 9 people, made a 3-day trip to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou. Though back Beijing for over half month, I'm thinking much of the wonderland, the fairyland of Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou. Having traveled a lot both home and abroad, I can say Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou are hard to be beat as the most beautiful water - water falls and colored lakes.

If you haven't been to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou, and are interested in getting some useful travel information on both Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou, you may follow me to have a virtual tour of the fairyland.

For most international tourists going either to Huanglong or Jiuzhaigou, taking a flight from Chengdu is the most common and secure way of traveling. In tourist season, there are over a dozen of daily flights between Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport. All the flights are operated by Air China, Sichuan Airlines and China Eatern Airlines.

We took the early flight 3U8631 at 6:45am for Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport. The airport is located in the north of Shuangliu County, about 16 kilometres southwest of downtown Chengdu, so we had to get much early to catch the flight.

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has two terminal buildings - old and new interconnected.. The old or the previous building is now used for the regional flights within Sichuan including Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong.

We went to the right side of the complex building combining the old and new terminals. The old terminal is numbered C with a little shabby exterior look.

After security check, we carried our handbages and found our departure Gate No.C17. It is highly advised to travel lightly to Huanglong or Jiuzhaigou and leave your large check luggage in Chengdu. Especially Huanglong has a sea level of over 3000 meters, travelling lightly is quite necessary. But due to the high altitude, the temperature would be much lower than Chendgu, you should put on your heavy or winter overcoat and sweater to keep off the cold in the mountain areas.


Our departure gate was C17. Surprisingly we found a limited space and no seats inside Gate C7 waiting room. So we had to go to the Gate C18 for the seats.


It is a Sichan Airline flight - 3U8631.


People were going through ticket checking and ready for boarding.


We were embarking the flight 3U8631 for Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport. It is an Airbus 319 with 112 seats.
