We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Hairui Tomb

Hairui Tomb was built to commemorate the famous upright official Hai Rui. The tomb is composed of Stone Arch, Hairui Tomb, Statue of Hai Rui, Hairui Museum and other related buildings. As a result, it is also called Hairui Park.

Walking into the gate of scenic areas, you can see the Stone Arch. A tomb passage paved with granite is across the arch and it is about 100 meters. The tomb passage is the same with other common tomb passages. There are stone sheep, stone horses, stone lions, stone turtle and stone people standing symmetrically on both sides of the passage.

Hairui tomb is at the end of the tomb passage. The tombstone in front of the tomb is the genuine antique which has a history of more than 400 years. The latter part of Hairui Tomb was built at a later age, including the statue of Hairui, rockery and other buildings.

Hai Rui was a feudal official, but he was honest in performing his duties throughout his life. During his tenure, Hairui get rid of drawbacks fearlessly, punish disloyal ministers, plead for common people, and rectify unjust charge. What he had done gained unprecedented public approval and offended influential officials as well.

When Hai Rui died, he nearly left nothing behind but a good reputation. However, the Hairui tomb today is an empty one. During the ten chaotic years, Hairui tomb was destroyed and his body was fired. Until 1983, Hairui tomb was rebuilt by the government so as to be sacrificed and looked at with reverence by later generations.
