We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Fangchenggang Travel Guide

Location: Located in the southwest end of the coast line of China, Fangchenggang(防城港) is situated in the south region of Guangxi, back against the southwest region, bordering Beibu Gulf in the south, Nanning in the north, Qinzhou in the east, adjacent to Vietnam in the southwest.

History: Fangcheng County was initially belonging to Guangxi from 1951 to 1955, whereas divided into Guangdong Province from 1955 to 1965. In 1958, after the merger of Fangcheng County and Dongxing Various Autonomous Region, the central town was established in Dongxing County, which was divided into Guangxi Again in 1965. By the year of 1984, the State Councilf ratified the opening of 14 cities along the coast line, including Fangchenggang and Beihai, and in 1985 the administrative power of Fangchenggang Region was transferred to the autonomous region itself.

In 1993 Fangchenggang was enlarged into city level, added with Shangsi County as prefecture-level county, governing Fangcheng and Harbor District. At the same time, Dongxing Economic Development Zone was divided into Fangchengfang City under department-level administration.

Climate: Located in the Beibu Gulf, the climate in Fangchenggang is characterized by distinctive maritime feature with monsoon influence. Owing to the mountain ranges that surround the harbor, the region is free from extreme weather condition including heavy winds or flooding, whereas the precipitation is relatively heavier than that of other region, with 2362.6mm annually according to the estimation. The frost seldom visit the city, with merely 10 foggy days within a year. The average mean temperature is 22.5℃. the highest temperature appears in July, with an average monthly temperature of 27.6-29.1℃. The Lowest temperature appears by the end of winter.

Transportation: Railways- Fangchengfang Railway Station is situated on Xinggang Blvd, which is available for Line Nanning-Fangchenggang. It charges 12 RMB per person which takes 4 hours to complete the whole line. Tickets are available at any time.

Highways- Fangchengfang is 143 kilometers from capital Nanning in the north, 53 kilometers from Qinzhou in the east, 153 kilometers from Beihai and 317 kilometers from Zhanjiang, which has been connected with those 4 cities though highway and coach bus. It is both economical as well as convenient to get there by coach bus.

Waterway- Fangchengfang is adjacent to Beiju Gulf, 150 nautical miles from Hai Phong City in Vietnam, 800 nautical miles from Ho Chi Minh City, the capital of Vietnam. Water lines departed from here are available for the arrival of Guangxi, Guangdong Coast regions, Hainan Province and coast regions of Vietnam, as well as regions including Hongkong, Macao, Japan and South Asian. There are several large-scale ports within Fangchanggang, namely, Port Fangchenggang, Port Bailong Zhenzhu, Port Dongxing, Port Jiangping as so forth. 

Local Specialties: Situated along the sea, the region is filled with plenty sorts of sea specialties including pearl, oyster, sand crab, prawn and so forth. There also are numerous stores along the roads of Dongxing City, which provide qualified souvenirs in affordable price.

Local Foods: Fengchui Pancake, Sliced boiled chicken, Fried squid with sun flower oil, Stewed chicken wings with tortoise soup.

Attraction: Huoshan Island is naturally endowed with favored environemt, surrounded by clear and azure sea, soft sand and mild beach. Owing to the movement of volcano, variegated patterns were formed on the rock through the erosion of magma, wind, and sea water. There are numerous birds chirping on the bank, in which long lives egret and other rare fowls. Enormous trees decorate the island into verdant green, and in addition, there are also rare tropical fruit produced within the region which titled the land as “Volcanic Island”.

Here on the island, it is available to see a large area of oyster-raising  field. When the climate is smooth, you can find numerous sea gulls chirping and flying upon the surface of the sea, the songs of the fisherman will gradually disappear as the ship filled with gourmet slowly sails into the port. Whether for the enjoyment of seafood gourmet or indulging into one’s imagination, just come here and stroll on the sand, immersing in the beauty of nature.

Event: Ha Festival of Jing Nationality(京族哈节)- From generation to generation, people of Jing Nationality has been settled in three islands of Fangchenggang, namely Wanwei, Wutou and Sanxin, nourtured by the waves of the south sea. “Ha” festival(“Ha”refers to “singing” and “eating” in their culture) is of most significant attributed to their special preference to singing. It usually lasts 3 days all through the nightin June of the lunar year.
