We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Dunhuang Museum

Dunhuang Museum (敦煌博物馆) is situated in the east Yangguan Road of Dunhuang city. It was established in October, 1979, originally as the office of the archeological team. Occupying an area of 2,400 square meters, Dunhuang Museum consists of three parts, collecting over 4,000 pieces of rare cultural relics.

The first part focuses on the documents of sculpture-storing cave (Cave No.17) in Mogao Caves. The second part centers on excavated cultural relics which could be dated back to Han Dynasty, Three Kingdoms Period, Jin Dynasty, Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty, which include stone monument, stone pagoda, pottery box, tomb guardian beast, lotus brick, kylin brick and so on.

The third section main display objects such silk, brocade,yarn, etc. testifying the legendary “Silk Road”. In addition, some weaponries made from iron, bronze, wood and ivory are also showed that provide valuable data to study the interaction of politics, economy and culture between China and Western Countries.

There are two exhibition rooms presents over 2,000 precious cultural relics unearthed in local dated from primitive society to the end of Qing Dynasty, such as all sort of pottery wares, currency, iron wares, silk, jade and pearls. The display of Great Wall in Han Dynasty centers on the Great Wall relics of Han Dynasty in Dunhuang, presenting objects such as bamboo book of Han, hemp paper, torches used in beacon tower as well as model of Great Wall of Han Dynasty.
