We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Obviously, Beijing Opera (京剧) has been one symbol of Beijing culture, even the culture of China. On 16th, November, 2010, Beijing opera was listed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. Beijing ( Peking ) opera is a national treasure with a history of over 200 years.

Beijing Dialect Drum (京韵大鼓), developed from board drum prevailing in Cangzhou and Hejian in Hebei province, came into being in Beijing and Tianjin. It is a sort of talking and singing music with a higher achievement and takes an important part in Chinese talking and singing music.

Beijing Pingju
Pingju (北京评剧), one popular drama in folk, was prevailing in North China. It came into being in the end of Qing Dynasty on the basis of Lianhua Lao, a local drama of Luan county, in Hebei province. Beijing Pingju consists of East group and West group. West group was also named “Beijing Bengbeng” for it always performed around Beijing.

Beijing Qinshu (北京琴书) is a sort of folk opera prevailing in Northern China, accompanied by yangqin, erhu (two-stringed bowed instrument), sanxian (three-stringed bowed instrument) and sihu (four-stringed bowed instrument). Due to a lack of successor, Beijing Qinshu may end up without going further. It has been listed into Beijing intangible cultural heritage.

As one part of Beijing culture, Beijing storytelling (北京评书) is a kind of art of talking and singing in the Han nationality. It is said that it was handed down by Liu Jingting, an artist in the early period of Qing Dynasty. In 2008, Beijing storytelling was selected into the second batch of national intangible culture heritage.

» Pinggu Ditty
Pinggu Ditty
Pinggu ditty (平谷调) is sort of traditional drama based on Pinggu dialect and Laoting tune. It is said by relevant artiest that Pinggu ditty came into being at the end of 19th century by adopting the Laoting tune. In 2006, Pinggu ditty was listed into intangible cultural heritage in Beijing. The tune of Pinggu ditty is a structure of endless loop, including start plank, fast plank, urgent plank and so on.
