We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Beijing Table Manner

Just as the name suggests, table manner (餐桌礼仪) refers to the common sense of etiquette while dining. It is reveiwd as one component of Beijing culture. The source of table manner is well-established. According to the record, as early as Zhon Dynasty, table manner had established perfectly.

Good Table Manner is as follows:
一 manner about seating. The order of taking seat is on the basis of identity—guest firstly, then elder in turn. The precedence is opposite the door. You should enter on the left of the chair without any noise.
二 While dining, elder among guests are invited to take firstly. It is impolite to make sound while drinking soup or dining. Don’t burp.
三 Don’t throw bones onto the ground or table. Put them on the plate or paper near yourself.
四 You’d better not pick your teeth during dinning.

五No smoking while dining
六 Do not speak to others with a full mouth.
七 If you are provided a napkin, place it with the corner tucked under your plate.
八 Remember to express your thanks to the owner after the dinner or invite host to your house in return.
九 When taking a break, leave the chopstick on the side of the plate or bowl. If you put chopstick on the top of the bowl, it is implied that you have finished.

Table Manner in ancient time
In ancient time, honest sent a invitation card firstly, then waited guests out of the door before guests’ arrival. After arriving, owner offered the tea or snack above all. The chair on the left was reserved for the person of the highest status or the guest of honor. While sitting, the owner toasted to dish: the elder and main guest were the first, the host was the last. After the banquet, lead the guests to the living room, served tea until they left. In most areas of China such as Beijing, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the traditional banquet manner remains well.
