We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Kicking Shuttlecock

Kicking shuttlecock (踢毽子) is one of ancient folk sports in Han nationality. It has s history of more than 2,000 years, dating from Han Dynasty and prevailing in Sui and Tang Dynasties. It is easy to make a shuttlecock. Firstly, wrapped a coin and a cross-end goose feather tube with a little piece of fabric. Then, sew them as a basement. Finally, insert seven or eight chicken feathers at another end of the goose feather tube.

Historical Origin
As one of the traditional folk sports in Chinese Han nationality, kicking shuttlecock originated in Han Dynasty, prevailed in Tang and Song Dyinasties. There were special stores engaged in producing shuttlecock at that time. In Ming Dynasty, kicking shuttlecock competition was held. It achieved its heyday in Qing Dynasty, especially production technology and kicking methods.

Kicking shuttlecock once declined after 1930s. After the founding of New China, kicking shuttlecock-the traditional folk sport was fostered and developed rapidly. In 1950, kicking shuttlecock, set up as a special performance in acrobatic troupe, was often played at abroad and gained popularity.

The first formal competition of kicking shuttlecock was held in Guangzhou in 1956. In 1963, kicking shuttlecock, together with rope skipping, were listed into physical exercise advocated by state and wrote into teaching material. In 1984, kicking shuttlecock was listed as national event formally. In 1987, shuttlecock association was set up. Kicking shuttlecock doesn’t ask much for the playground, just a flat area of 5- 6 square meters or 3-4 square meters. The kicking methods are various.
