We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Western Beijing Streamer Music (京西幡乐) is traditional ensemble of Chinese wind and percussion instruments in western mountain of Beijing. it has been down for 400 years. The ancient music was used to sacrifice Confucius, focusing on praising and sacrificing divinity. At present, it has developed into popular entertainment hold on festivals. It is one part of Beijng culture.

Western Beijing streamer music recently attracted more and more attention, which has been listed into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection. Musical instrument in western Beijing streamer music is composed of wind music and percussion music. Stream music includes sheng, pipe, flute, suona, drum and cymbals. Percussion music contains a few of big cymbals.

Qianjuntai village and Zhuanghu village at the foot of Mountain Baihuashan in Mengtougou district, the west of Beijing city held streamer fair on lantern festival, keeping for hundreds of years. It is said that every lantern festival, outed men returned home to attended streamer music. After the activity, locals invited friends to home, the more the better.

In the early period of 1958, Beijing bureau of mines exploited coal in the area, as a result, villagers gradually worked in resource depots. Western Beijing Streamer Music was stopped during the Cultural Revolution and was recovered until 1981. At that time, streamer music got support from mines and government. Later, local resident gradually moved out due to the decline of coal mining. The disappearance of elders and the reduce of younger who get out to receive high education or work lead to great loss of inheritance of streamer music.

The value of streamer music displays in four aspects as follows:
1. Its ancient music program. The old artists said the repertoires are related with Confucius in Spring and Autumn period. Some of them tells story about Confucius and his disciples.

2.ancient troupes. The troupes was hand down generation by generation which could be traced back to Ming Dynasty.

3.ancinet instruments. At present, there are some old cymbals collected in Zhuanghu and Qian Juntai, which got green rusty.

4.ancient artists. There are fewer people performing streamer music. The youngest is more than 50-year old.
