We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

It is said that the smoke is poped out from a golden censer buried under the rock, then, why the golden censer is buried there? The following is a legend about it.

About 800 years ago, an emperor order to catch the best craftsmen to established temples along Western Mountain. A craftsman lived on the bank of Yongding river was praised for high handcraft. He was taken away forcibly, leaving his 60-year old mother alone. Since the craftsman was taken to Shanxi province, he always missed his hometown and the aged mother. One day, he picked up a block of silver.

After work, he bought a stick of incense and climbed to the top of the mountain. He was ready to burn a stick of incense to pray health for his mother, however, he couldn’t find a suitable place to insert the incense. After a while, he was so tired that he slept back on a rock. Suddenly, he dreamed of a golden incense burner flying to his foot. When he waked up, a golden incense burner in front of him as dreamed. He immediately insert a incense in the burner, kowkowed toward his hometown.

When a incense just burned up, he saw his one of fellow-villagers being run after a wolf. He ran towards the wolf and caught its tail without hesitation. He saved his fellow, but himself was killed by the wolf. In order to memory him, his fellows buried him on the top of the mountain together with his golden incense burner. The carved two rocked in the shape of incense burner, one pressing on the craftsman, the other on the golden incense burner. Ever since, strands of smoke came out from that summit of mountain. The mountain was named Xiangshan.
