We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Beijing Children’s Folk Rhyme

As one component of Beijing culture, Beijing children’s folk rhymes (北京童谣) are the result from its long history which created the profound deposit of culture. Children’s folk rhymes are handed down from generation to generation by oral and written ways. It features simple form, consonant syllable and humorous tone. Children’s folk rhymes contains abundant educational content and outstanding cultural heritage. It has been selected in the second national nonmaterial cultural heritage list.

History
Beijing children’s folk rhymes refer to rhymes spread on the center of Xuanwu District. Xuanwu district is the first place after Beijing set up as a capital. Xuannan culture formed after Ming and Qing Dynasties was the important component of Beijing culture. It reflects the profound folk literary of tradition. As an ancient city with a history more than 3,000 years, its long history led to massive culture accumulation. Amount of children’s folk rhymes were sung among children. They were the record of accident, people’s condition and will in different times.


















Children’s folk rhymes are treasure of humal oral culture. The simple words deflects profound life philosophy. It stems from local life, expressing profound life philosophy with simple words. Children’s folk rhymes are summary of people’s life experience. It covers a wide range of field in life.

Inheriting and Protecting
With the development of ages, Children’s folk rhymes gradually fade out people’s cultural life. In order to protect Beijing Children’s folk rhymes, many foreign scholars and Beijing literati and folk literati make great contribution to protect Beijing children’s folk rhymes.

In 1956, Xue Shan wrote and edited the book . was wrote by Wang Wenbao and edited in 1982. wrote by Zhao Xiaoyang was edited in 2006. In 2008, Beijing children’s folk rhyme is listed as national intangible cultural heritage.

At the same time, with the help of Beijing Children’s Libraries and Zhao Shu, a well-known folklore expert, the First Primary School Affiliated to Beijing Xuanwu District Normal School collected and wrote as a course. The students learn and sing on very etiquette lesson.
