We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Woodblock Watermark Technique

Woodblock watermark technique (木版水印技艺) has a long history and tradition in China. In 2006, it was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage by the State Council. Woodblock watermark technique uses pen, knife, brush, rake, traditional Chinese painting color and water as basic tool with the purpose of recovering the artistic form of traditional painting.

Woodblock watermark technique has a long historical tradition. As early as 868 year, a artist named Wang Jie made illustration for Chin-kang ching with this technique. After Tang Dynasty, most of books were attached illustrations. Colorful woodblock watermark technique derived from the 16th century.

Rongbaozhai, located in western street in colored glaze factory in Xicheng District, is well-known for its woodblock watermark technique. Built up in 1672, it has always been a field of activity for people from calligraphy and painting circles to gather and communicate. Woodblock watermark paintings sell well at home and abroad and hold oversea exhibitions many times. Most of them were collected by many foreign museums.

After the founding of New China, Rongbaozhai began to work on large artist works such as “Galloping Horse”, “Ta Ga Painting”, etc. instead of the former small pieces of poem and letter. This change indicated that woodblock watermark technique ran to its peak moment.

As a sort of copying technique, woodblock watermark technique gathers with painting, carving and printing. It can not only create art works with its own characteristic, but also copy various Chinese traditional painting and calligraphy vividly.

is universally accepted as the work of pinnacle. It describes the uninhibited nightlife of Han Xizai, a minister of South Tang Dynasty, consisting of five parts such as “music, dance, relaxation, play and farewell ”. In order to print the traditional painting, Rongbaozhai prepared the tailor-made drawing silk and used mineral color including mineral blue, mineral green, cinnabar and pure gold. Rongbaozhai spent eight years to delineate and stereotype.
