We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Tangbu Rong

Rongbu Tang (唐布绒), with a history of more than 160 years, derived from the middle period of Qing Dynasty. It is highly recognized as the “living fossil” of folk crafts by professionals. Rongbu Tang is both the nickname of Mr. Tang Qiliang-a famous craftsman and his products - toys with downy materials including wool and cotton (literally meaning "rongbu" in Chinese).

Mr.Tang is 90 years old. he is the fourth generation of "Rongbu Tang." Tang started his apprenticeship at age 9; many years later, he had learned all the procedures concerned with the making of rongbu toys. At the age of 20, he was nicknamed "Rongbu Tang" for his excellent craftmanship. He now makes no more toys due to his high ages.

His youngest daughter, Ms Tang Yujie has inherited his craftmanship and has opened a boutique store on Guozijian Dajie of on the Chengxian Street, selling Rongbu Tang products and other well known handicrafts. So she has opened a valuable showcase for Beijing folk arts, many of which are in the danger of extinction.

Rongbu handicraft is keen on traditional color to show happy and good fortune. It is in wide of subjects centering on old Beijing life. Representative works include horse pulling vehicle, golden horse and dog, tiger eating child, a row of horses, chicken eating rice, royal vehicle, tumbler, and so on.

Rongbu Tang handicraft developed from simplicity to complex, from roughness to exquisite. It reflects the historical process of handicrafts of old Beijing as well as the entertainment, the social culture and convention of old Beijing people.
