We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Beijing Figuriness

As the particular folk art of Beijing, Beijing figurines (北京绢人) is made of silk with a history of more than 1,000 years. Characters are mostly taken from beautiful traditional Chinese women in folk story, figures in opera and folk dance styles. Beijing figurines is vivid spatial figure, made of superior silk all over the body.

In ancient, people were popular making all sorts of handicrafts with bamboo and paper. As early as Tang Dynasty (618-907), in the beginning, village in the south of Fujian province was prevalence of making animals and flowers with paper, then some well-known fairy stories were expressed in the form of lanterns. In Ming Dynasty, figurines began to be made in folk.

In Qing Dynasty, the god of longevity and Magu (a famous god in Chinese Taoism) made of silk were presented as precious birthday gift together with birthday noodles and peaches. Unfortunately, the skill of making figurines was once failed to be handed down. In the middle of 50s after the founding of New China, figurines manufacture was recovered.
