We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Beijing Carved Porcelain

Carved porcelain (刻瓷) is a sort of traditional folk handicraft gathering with painting, calligraphy and engraving, which is also one important part of Beijing culture.  Various figures or patterns are carved on porcelain by special tools. With the development of porcelain industry in Jin and Wei Dynasties, a number of delicate chinaware were produced. Emperors, officeholder and some literary men engraved some poets or pictures on porcelains to keep them for a long time, which was the embryonic form of carved porcelain.

The real carved porcelain began in the early period of Qing Dynasty. It is recorded that in the early Qing Dynasty, a special industry engaged in carved porcelain came into being. In the late period of Emperor Qianlong, the imperial


















court set up a Zaobanchu-a department in the manufacture of royal artcrafts to go with the prosperous economy and
ruler’s cultural life. Engraved art of calligraphy made a further development under the praise of all walks of life. Some flowers, mountains, birds, insects and grass were engraved on porcelains lifelikely.

Representative figures
Zhang Mingwen
, born in Zibo, Shandong province in 1941, is the founder of carved porcelain in Zibo. He is good at the art of carved porcelain, renowned at home and abroad. He created new carved method, apply color method, carved portrait porcelain, and micro carved method. In 1981, he held an exhibition on carved porcelain in Western Germany.

His work “the figure of Marx” was collected by Karl-Marx-House Museum in Western Germany. The traditional Chinese Painting of “Jie De Qing Shan Zhu Qian Li” was stored up by China Pictorial. He successively held exhibitions in Tennessee in America, Singapore, Chicago in American, Switzerland, Japan and Hongkong.

















LiZiyuan, born in Zibo, Shandong province in 1944, was graduated from Ceramic Technical School in Zibo, Shandong. He was honored as “the master of Ceramic Art in China” in 1994. His work enjoyed a worldwide fame, awarded national and provincial awards many times. Successively, he attended exhibitions held in Germany, America, Japan, Hongkong, Canada, Switzerland, Mexico, and so on.
