We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Ruifuxiang Cloth Store

Ruifuxiang (瑞蚨祥), a famous China time-honored brand about silk cloth, was established in the 19th year of Emperor Guangxu, 1893. It is mainly engaged in the production of national clothing that embodies the beauty both of oriental women and Chinese silk. Recent years, Ruifuxiang has registered its symbol of a mother Fu and her son as trademark, which cited the literary quotation of “Qingfu return Currency”. It is the important part of Beijing culture.

The development of Ruifuxiang
The founder of Fuifuxiang, Meng Chuanshan, was the descendant of Confucius. Primarily, he was managed with homespun and established chain stores Shanghai, Qingdao and Tianjin named Wanfuxiang. In 1893, since calico flooded in China, Meng Chuanshan turned to silk store. He established Ruifuxiang in Dazhalan, in Qianmen.

At the end of Qing Dynasty, Ruifuxiang had been developed into the largest silk store in Beijing, possessing five chain stores including Donghongji Tea House, Ruifuxiang headquarters, Hongji Fur Shop, Xihongji Tea House and Xihongji Silk Store, which were all located in Dazhalan. Ruifuxiang was destroyed by the Yihetuan in 1900 and rebuilt soon after.

The material of the first flag rising in Tiananmen Square was provided by Ruifuxiang assigned by Premier Zhou. In 1954, Ruifuxiang took the lead in public-private joint management. It merged other four chain stores, mainly operating silk, wool fabric and fur goods. Until today, it keeps its characteristic of variety, fashion and excellence. Chi-pao (cheongsam) made by Ruifuxiang shows the charm of oriental women’s charm. Different styles show the different beauties.

The Architecture of Ruifuxiang
The store of Ruifuxiang is a building complex composed of traditional courtyard and storied building. The western architecture on the street is the business building. Built in 1923, it is covered an area of 3520 square meters with a height of 11 meters in the style of traditional formation. It is a three-floor building. Windows on the first and second floor are oblong, while it is circle on the third floor. There is a humanistic front porch in business lobby, where customers can elude for rains and snows.
