We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Location: Baicheng (白城)is a prefecture-level city in the northwestern part of Jilin province, China, bordering Inner Mongolia on the north and west and Heilongjiang on the east and northeast.

Population: 2.30 million

Area: 25,685 Square kilometers

Nationalities: Han, Koreans, Manchu, Mongol and Hui

History: The name of the city Baicheng, which in Chinese means “white town”, is originated from its the Mongolian “Chaghanhot”, which stood for "white town". The area around present day Baicheng was once a nomadic area which was inhabited by several nomad tribes in Northeast China as early as the Late Neolithic Age(8000 years ago).

During the Liao Dynasty (907-1125), Baicheng was the political center of emperors. As Qing Government resigned in the 19th century, no farming was allowed until 1902.

In 1904 Baicheng developed into a county, Jing'an. In 1914 Jing'an County was renamed Tao'an. By 1938 it was finally renamed Baicheng used to belong to Nenjiang and Heilongjiang province, under the jurisdiction of the former provincial capital Qiqihar. In 1954, with the Heilongjiang Province merged with Songjiang Province, Baicheng was incorporated into Jilin Province.

Climate: Baicheng has a monsoon-influenced, humid continental climate, with long, frigid, windy winters and hot, humid summers. In January the temperature averages −16.4 °C (2.5 °F), whereas July averages 23.4 °C (74.1 °F); the annual mean is 5.04 °C (41.1 °F). More than 70% of the rainfall centers in June, July and August, with annual precipitation of 399.9 mm. Drought conditions are common in spring and autumn. Subjected to ample illumination, the city reveals huge potential in the exploitation of solar energy. Besides, heavy winds that frequently visitthe city also provide it with great sources of wind energy.

Transportation: Baicheng enjoys a relatively convenient transportation system. To visit the city, trains and cars are highly recommended since the construction of the civil airport is expected to be finished by 2015.  Railways and highways are arranged in crisscross pattern, leading to all directions, which serves as efficient transportation toward major spot regions.

Airway- Baicheng involves Daqingshan Airport, which was design for military use solely. While Baicheng Airport is now under-construction, it is possible for tourists to direct their way to Baicheng from Longjia International Airport by rail or by car.

Railway- Baicheng is the convergence of railways including Lines of Beijing to Qiqihar, Lines of Tongliao to Ranghu Road, Lines of Changchun to Baicheng, Lines of Siping to Qiqihar and so forth. Besides, railways directed to Dalian port and Tianjin port have connected Baicheng with large-sized or medium-sized cities, including Beijing, Shenyang, Dalian, Huhehot, Qiqihar, Daqing, Changchun and so forth.

Attractions: XiangHai Natural Reserve- Xianghai Natural Reserve(向海自然保护区) covers an area of 10.67 Square kilometers in Tongyu Town, center of the Horqin Prairie, which reflects typical prairie landscape. As a well-known hometown of Crane, it includes 6 species of Cranes, about 40% of the total 15 types recognized all over the world.

Momoge Natural Reserve- Momoge Natural Reserve (莫莫格自然保护区) is regarded as the paradise of flora and fauna and birds. It is located in the convergence region of Nen River and Tao River, which developed into a reserve of Red-crowned crane and wetland. It is undeniable that Momoge is endowed with great natural resources, including 550 sorts of seeds and 282 sorts of vertebrate.
