We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Buyi Nationality

Description: Buyi nationality (布依族), with a population of 2,870,000, is a large minority in the southwest of China. Guizhou province is the main habitation of Bouyei nationality, primarily gathering Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of QienNan and Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Qian Xinan.

Language: Buyi language belongs to Kam-Tai language branch under the Sino-Tibetan language family.

Religion: The original religious belief includes natural worship, totem worship, ancestor worship and sorcery. Manichaeism is the traditional religion believed by most of Buyi people.


















Clothing Character: Buyi clothing is unique. Cyan, blue and white are the main color. Men wear cyan or striped headscarf, double-breasted short coat and long trousers. Women are usually dressed on batik pleated skirt and short coat with slopping lapel.

Along the clothing shoulder, two rows of semicircular patter are embroidered with colorful thread. The middle of sleeve is embroidery and the parts of both up and low are batik. On festivals, women are used to wearing silver jewelry such as earring, finger ring, necklace, hairpin and bangle.

Food Culture: Buyi nationality lives on agriculture. Rice cultivation was originally invented by ancestors of Buyi nationality, so rice and corn are their staple food. Wine takes an important place in their daily life. After the fall harvest, each family makes an amount of rice wine to prepare for the next year.

Festivals: Dancing Flower Show (跳花会) is the Valentine’s Day of Buyi nationality, held from the New Year’s Day to the 21st day of lunar New Year. Single boys and girls fall into love through the activity.


















The Double-Third Festival (三月三) is the traditional festival of Buyi people. Every household makes colorful sticky-rice to receive friends and relatives.

Art: Music---Buyi opera, Buyi Dialogue Song and Bayinzuochang are listed as national treasures of folk art. The traditional music instruments include sona, yueqin (a four-stringed plucked instrument with a full-moon-shaped sound box), flute and so on.

Architecture---The house of Buyi nationality dwelled along Nanpanjiang river is hanging house. Buyi people in Zhenning and Anshun in Guizhou province live in stone house.

Batic of Buyi nationality has a long standing reputation, which was recorded as early as Song Dynasty. Buyi girls studied the technique of batic from their mother on the age of 12 or 13.
