We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Salar Nationality

Description: Salar nationality (撒拉族) mainly gathers in Boan, Dongxiang and Salar Nationalities Autonomous County of Jishishan in Gansu province and Xunhua Salar Autonomous County in Qinghai province.

Language: Salar language

Religion: Islam


















Clothing Character: Salar clothing characters with Islam style. Salar enderly wrap several feet white cloth on the head in church. Women wear hijab to shadow other parts in addition to the face. Baby is wore white clothe without collar and button as soon as he is born, referring to come to the world purely.

Food Culture: Salar nationality eat three meals one day, living on flour. Household diets include steamed twisted roll, steamed bun, hand-pulled noodles, baked pancake, and so on. The head and hoof of cattle and sheep are widely loved by Salar people.

Mairenfan is a sort of meal eaten on funeral communally. Pound wheat into pieces and sweep the skin, then boil it together with bean in spring water. After ten hours, put diced meat and chopped green onion. According to the Islamism, drinking is strictly prohibited. Green tea, milk tea, lidded-cup tea and barley tea are their common drinking.


















Festivals: Eid al-Fitr, Eid Adha, Milad al-Nai

Arts: Salar people are skilled in cotting, knitting, forging iron, chiseling stone and making shoes.

Salar song is a kind of folk lyric song, composed of many individual poem. “Camel dance” danced by four person is the most prevailing. Besides, embroidery and paper cut are also elegant.
