Day by Day Itinerary
Day 01: Beijing - Xining by morning flight
Pick up from your hotel in Beijing in the early morning, you are transferred to Beijing Capital International Airport and take the morning flight to Xining. Arrive in Xining, met by our representative in Xining, transferred directly to Qinghghai Lake. Located 150km west of Xining, Qinghai Lake is a saline lake and the largest inland saltwater lake in China. It has abundant fish and other aquatic creatures, which in turn draws large flocks of birds to perch in the islands of the lake.
After lunch, drive back to the city of Xining and visit Ta'er Monastery. The Ta'er Monastery (Kumbum Monastery) is situated in Huangzhong County 25 kilometerss southwest of Xining. It is one of the two most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries outside Tibet.
After dinner, transferred to your hotel in Xining. ( L D )
Day 02: Xining - Lanzhou by morning train - Xiahe by road
Pick up from your hotel in Xining and transferred to Xining Train Station and take the morning train K171/K174 (08:55 - 12:02) for Lanzhou. Arrival at Lanzhou Train Station, met by our representative in Lanzhou.
After lunch, drive 75 km southwest of Lanzhou to Binglingsi Grottoes. "Bingling" means "thousand Buddhas" or "ten-thousand Buddhas" in the Tibetan language. Also known as Bingling Temple, the grottoes are carved on Jishi Hill 75 km from Lanzhou. Bingling Temple Grottoes are famous for stone sculptures of Budda Buddhist pagodas in relief and murals of Esoteric Buddhism.
Then continue to drive from Bingling Temple to Xiah which takes about five hours. Xiahe is well noted for its old Laprung Temple. Xiahe is densely populated by Tibetan people. Stay at Laprung Hotel. ( B L D )
Day 03: Xiahe - Lanzhou by Road
After breakfast, visit Labrang Monastery. It is one of the six great monasteries of the Geluk (Yellow Hat) school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery was founded in 1709 by the first Jamyang Zhaypa, Ngawang Tsondru. It is Tibetan Buddhism's most important monastery town outside the Tibetan Autonomous Region.
After lunch, visit Sangke Grassland, around and beyond the village of Sangke, 14km southwest of Xiahe, large expanses of open
grasslands, where the Tibetans graze their yak herds. In summer these rolling pastures are at their greenest and abound with wildflowers.
Then drive 280km back to Lanzhou and stay at the hotel in Lanzhou. ( B L D )
Day 04: Lanzhou - Zhongwei by train No.K44B ( 16:16 - 21:58 )
After breakfast, visit Gansu Provincial Museum. The Gansu Provincial Museum is a local comprehensive museum. The Museum has five exhibition halls, which boasts
75,000 cultural relics ranging from natural specimens to historical, revolutionary and national heritages. Then have a walk along the Yellow River park.
After lunch, transferred to Lanzhou Train Station and take train No.K44B ( 16:16 - 21:58 ) for Zhongwei. Arrival at Zhongwei, met by our representative from Zhongwei and transferred to your hotel in Zhongwei. ( B L )
Day 05: Zhongwei - Yinchuan by train no.(20:41-23:44)
After breakfast, first visit Shapotou . It is situated 20 kilometers west of Zhongwei city, Shapotou is a 2,000-meter long and 100-meter high sand dune on the northern bank
of the Yellow River, at the southern rim of the Tengger Desert. It is also a singing sand hill, singing as people slide down the slope.
Then drive back to the city center of Zhongwei. After lunch, move on to Gao Temple. The Gao Temple is a temple complex originally built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD). Later it was renovated many times. The present temple is a grand jumble of buildings and styles covering an area of about 4000 square meters.
After dinner, take train no.(20:41-23:44) for Yinchuan. Arrival in Yinchuan, met by our representative in Yinchuan and transferred to your hotel in Yinchuan. ( B L D )
Day 06: Yinchuan - Beijing by evening flight for Beijing
Today you will have a full day highlight tour of Yinchuan:
1.Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Museum - Located in the old district of Yinchuan city, the museum is placed in the Chengtian Temple and the
main building of the temple is used as its central hall. It is a comprehensive-level museum that displays the Ningxia historical
artifacts, local customs, and art collections and mnay more.
2.Western Xia Tombs - The Western Xia tombs is located at the foot of the Helan Mountains in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The tomb area covers 9 imperial mausoleums and 250 tombs of imperial relatives and officials. The Western Xia state existed between 1038
and 1227, when it was finally taken over by the Mongols under Chingis Khan.
8. Ningxia Sand Lake Scenic Resort (Shahu) - The Sand Lake Scenic Resort is a nice site for holiday makers. The resort has a lake, sand dunes, fishing and is a great
place to do some bird watching.
After dinner, take the evening flight for Beijing.
